Lauren Marchbank, I am okay with it, 2017, 2.31 minutes.

Lauren Marchbank is an emerging performer and contemporary dancer, who has worked on numerous solo projects, including with STRUT Dance.

Mentored by Laura Boynes, Lauren’s piece for Mixed Reality directly confronts her own fear and fatigue at being constantly looked at. Acting as a kind of personal therapy and exploration, Lauren places herself in a crowded space, employing dance as a means to navigate and liberate herself from her anxieties.

Virtual Reality has showed me what people haven’t seen yet but I would recommend it to others who haven’t but they might be scared at first because they haven’t seen the world we are currently living in that is called Google Earth and the first time I went in I was very curious about the whole thing because I had heard of it I just didn’t quite know what was actually through those goggles to me it was like a magnified version of the world we live in today and in 3d and my mind went crazy and was like what is happening?

Then I had a couple of sessions doing that and I wasn’t so mind blown and just had fun with it drawing and the google brush filter and did some of my dance moves in there that was a fun element to use and we were originally located in Fremantle somewhere close by but then Simone told me that they had brighter future for the place to be somewhere else in Fremantle which had a wider space to use and from there to here it’s the same but bigger space to use which I have used to my advantage

Moving from Virtual Reality and actually solely focusing on my dance peice which is my passion beyond passion. I got to play with the space that was a hell lot of fun and I haven’t got to use the floor work in my routine yet but I am excited to do that because the building needs more revamping so I can pretend that’s happening until I get to do that

The best part about my dance now that my dance is growing I added some of my favourite dance moves and some help to follow on the dance with the music makes me happy that we can finish the dance in time so we can have one whole dance makes me want to say BUT I AM OK

First thing i had sushi lunch with Michelle in Claremont and walked home and then got ready and drive to Fremantle to go to Dadaa and i had a feeling of doing what we did last week which was Virtual Reality and that was fun and a really cool experience to experience something that i don’t know others that do that so it was mind blowing

Simone got me into 2 other worlds where one was a game that i didn’t know how to play and that was scary for me because i haven’t experienced how it was displayed if it was like nintendo wii or x box i wouldn’t mind it but this is really different then before that was Google Earth and that was the same scary feeling because the earth was coming at me

Then Simone and me got talking about how life has effected me in a human and personal way so that was good and how my Tracksuit showing was and that she was coming lucky i had people coming that i knew the time now is 4:04 and now i am blogging about my Wednesday at Dadaa and Simone will drive me to the station and i can go home rocking to my beats with my beats headphones on then i will end the day like i always do and thats the LOZZA’S VITUAL REALITY WORLD DISCOVERED.

just as normal at 3:00 i came into the studio and i had fun on the talking iPad went through the dance a lot and i mean a lot i have been yawning a lot because of how much work we have done when i say we i mean me then at the end of the amounts of times we did the dance we did it again while doing breathing exercises to get me in the zone first then maintaining it in the dance as well I am yawning jus thinking about it  we then (I) wrote on a drawing tool on the iPad and i wrote “When I dance I Feel Like Myself” and drew a squiggle then used that in the dance and used my voice audio with the music in the middle and ending with my voice saying “I am Ok”

Today at 3:00 i came into the studio and from what we did last week was totally different what we did today was that i warmed up with running through the dance and then we went through the dance a few times and then we did some isolation exercises and breathing exercises with the dance breathing in-between moves to make the dance looking more alive than normal breathing in the dance and then Lincoln emailed Simone the audio and we went through the dance with that a couple of times and so did with the track of music and while i was dancing it was like a alive dance photoshoot

Today as normal Wednesday at 3:00 I came into the studio Laura and me caught up on the week that passed and Mother’s Day then we started to warm up our bodies to get the blood flowing in our bodies get the ligaments moving as us dancers should

Then we got into the dance material and went through it a good amount of times and worked on some of the timing between the moves in the dance and making the moves connect because there were moments in the dance where i paused and we don’t want that as the session ended at 5:00 i went home Laura drove me to the train and i walked from the train to my unit and then started on my blog that night

I am currently working intensely with five artists from the Mixed Reality project. Patrick Carter, Tina Fielding, Lauren Marchbank, Danny Tuckey and Julia Hales.

Each artist has their own creative agenda and drive and my role as a facilitator is to assist each individual to realise their projects.

With an arts practice based in movement and film I am currently working on developing live dance and theatre performance outcomes with each person. Themes that have emerged throughout the workshopping process have been identity, culture and reality. What is real for you? What is your everyday reality? The work we have been creating is personal and revealing and has proved to be both challenging and rewarding for the artists and I.

Once we have formed the live performance material we will then move into working with technology and virtual reality. We will be looking at how each personal reality then manifests in an unnatural virtual world. This experimentation will then be incorporated with the live performance for some of the artists.
